Literature and World War II

This class will prompt students to explore the complexities of wartime morality as it existed during World War II. The unit will consist of but not limited to a powerful speech, “Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat,” delivered by Winston Churchill as the United Kingdom entered into the war against German fascism. Other selections explore both the hope and despair created by war, as expressed by Anne Frank, John Boyne, Elie Wiesel, and other Holocaust survivors, young people in Germany, Japanese Americans, as well as proponents of peace, prisoners of war, and more. Students will explore the brave, critical, and illuminating choices that those in extreme conflict are forced to make, and the ramifications of these choices. Students will be responsible for two independent projects outside of class. Class is worth one English credit.

After School HiSET Preparation: Ages 16-18

This class will help students prepare for their high school equivalency (HiSET) exams by providing academic support and individualized attention. Class also prepares students for the required practice tests, and assists students with setting up an ETS account and registering for the official exam. Student enrollment is dependent on practice test schools. Students must live in N.H. and be between 16-18 years old to register.

Class meets Monday and Wednesday, 2:45-4:30 pm, begins September 14, 2026, Salem High. Instructors: Daniel and Tebo

Quantitative Reasoning

This math class includes different skills such as adding/subtracting and multiplying polynomials, factoring basic quadratics, applications of basic quadratics, sequences (arithmetic and geometric), linear and exponential functions, and basic stats (mean, median, mode, and sampling methods). Students will be responsible for completing one project by the end of the class that is stats-based. Class is worth 1 math credit.

Work Skills

The Work Skills course is designed for students who are working full or part-time and have been employed at their current job for at least two months. Students can earn between 0.5 and 2.0 credits.  In order to verify the number of hours worked, students will be asked to bring in pay stubs that show the weekly hours worked. In addition, students will have to complete writing assignments that reflect upon their work experiences and critically analyze their strengths and weaknesses as an employee.

Tuition (due upon registration)

• $60: 1/2 credit classes for Salem students/residents
• $100: 1 credit classes for Salem students/residents
• $120: 1/2 credit classes for non Salem students/residents
• $200: 1 credit classes for non Salem students/residents
• $45 one-time registration fee for all new students to Continuing Education

• Request a transcript from your last high school.
• Send your transcript to Salem Continuing Education for review and make an appointment with the Director to create a plan for completing remaining credits: SalemContinuingEducation@sau57.org

Once you have met with the Director and created a plan for completing remaining credits, register for a class. There is a fee for classes, and a $45 one-time registration fee for new students.

A completed  registration is required for all students. If students are taking multiple classes, only one registration is needed.  Note:  classes are open to New Hampshire residents/employees only.
